Details here.

Concerned about changes to the 80 bus route? There’s a public meeting this Wednesday, May 22nd, starting at 5:30 PM to hear what you have to say: Metrobus Studies

WMATA Board meetings…

View Post

Poll: Close WMATA Rail on Weekends?

<strike>Take the poll here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/P2SPQG5</strike>

Results:

“Yes - close it till it’s a reliable service again.” - 41

“No - as bad as it is leave it open.” - 59

Your comments:

“Close it down- most don’t even consider using metro on weekends unless they absolutely have to. Shut ‘er down and get the rebuilding done faster.”

“Are you serious?”

“There are plenty of people in the region who don’t have other options. A thirty-minute trip that takes two hours still gets you there SOMEHOW. Point of privilege to suggest otherwise.”

“Yes, but increase bus service”

“Only transport option in my area.”

“Personally I would want them to just close it. But for people who need it to get to work on weekends (as crappy as it is), I wouldn’t want to take that transportation option away from them.”

“Many of us do work/take classes/etc. on weekends! And I don’t really have a lot of optimism that it’ll become a reliable service again, so…”

“Maybe close down specific lines, but WMATA likely doesn’t have the resources to do meaningful work on the entire system at once - or not enough to justify closing the entire system”

WMATA's Pandora "Jingle"

ACT says “The College Park closing continues a pattern of Metro ignoring riders’ needs when it schedules weekend maintenance”.

Just waited 20 minutes For a Blue Line (no delay), and @wmata has the audacity to call it “Rush Plus.”

— Casey Given (@CaseyJGiven) May 9, 2013

I read the tweets above and wanted to know what was really going on with the Blue Line at McPherson Square. Luckily @mikeyusc has been keeping PIDs data so I asked him for yesterday morning’s Blue Line times at that station and here’s what I found:

On Track 1 (from VA to Largo):

Average Wait: 10 Minutes

On Track 2 (from Largo to VA):

Average Wait: 9 Minutes

Now the most obvious problem here, and I think reason for complaint, is that depending on when you get to the platform you’re waiting anywhere from 1 minute to TWENTY-SEVEN minutes for a Blue Line train. The inconsistency is enough to drive you mad.

Metro's Escalator Reliability
